What this standard covers
AS91246 is an internal worth 3 credits. There is no exam. Your teacher sets the task, your class studies one topic at a global scale, and you hand in a report, a presentation or a set of structured answers.
Three definitions come straight from the standard, and the first one rules out more topics than anything else:
Three things must be in your submission:

The standard defines "causes" as two different things, and they are not interchangeable:

Part 3 is where most submissions run out. Students describe a global pattern well, explain its causes reasonably, then write four general sentences about why it matters. Significance for people is a third of the standard, and Excellence turns on it.
A note on the worked topic. Every other Geography topic on this site is demonstrated on an invented New Zealand case study, because the standards leave the case to the school. A global pattern cannot be invented — it has to be real. The worked topic here is the global distribution of earthquakes and volcanic activity, and every figure is rounded, approximate and attributed to the kind of source it came from. Look up current figures from GNS Science, the USGS or a published volcano catalogue for your own report — do not quote these.
