An innovative and sustainable business activity · Part 1 of 4
6 exam-style questions with model answers, plus 7 quick multi-choice questions — every question on this part of the standard, grouped by the 2 pages of notes they come from.
Write a full answer before you reveal the model one. That comparison is where the learning happens.
Explain what a business activity is and what with consultation means, and explain why an activity that is planned in detail but never actually run cannot meet the standard.
A team is planning an activity making reusable produce bags from donated fabric. Their plan says:
Fully explain TWO ways this plan will prevent the team from evaluating their activity, and how each affects what they can claim at the end.
Your class can run its activity in one of two shapes. The product is the same in both: bagged compost made from the school canteen's food waste.
Option A — a one-day stall at the September school gala, selling 250 bags in an afternoon to a guaranteed crowd.
Option B — a monthly subscription from May to September, delivering 30 households a bag a month, with the households signing up in April.
Evaluate which shape would produce the stronger activity. Justify your recommendation, including any new information.
Explain what innovative means for a business activity, and explain why the innovation does not have to be in the product itself.
A team's plan says: "Our activity is innovative because no other student business at our school has sold candles before."
Fully explain TWO problems this claim creates, and how each affects the rest of the team's work.
Tail End Treats (invented Dunedin student activity) will make and sell baked dog treats. The team has two candidate innovations.
Option A — a new flavour combination — kūmara and hoki skin — that no local pet food producer currently sells.
Option B — baking the treats from spent brewer's grain, the wet malt left after brewing, which an invented local brewery currently pays to have taken away and would give the team free.
Evaluate which innovation the activity should be built on. Justify your recommendation, including any new information.
