Physics in Context

Physics in Context (AS91522) is a 4-credit internal — the Level 3 sibling of AS91169. As at Level 2, your teacher sets a real-world context (medical technology, transport, energy generation, sport — whatever your school assigns), and there's no fixed topic list to memorise. What's different at Level 3 is the depth expected: it's not enough to accurately describe the physics in the context — you need to genuinely apply it, using it to explain or predict a specific real feature, ideally supported by calculation.

Since the exact context varies by school, this page teaches the structure of a strong response rather than fixed content:

• Identify the physics concept(s) that genuinely explain the feature you're asked about.
• Apply them — use the physics to explain why the feature works the way it does, or to predict a quantitative outcome, not just describe what the feature is.
• Integrate multiple concepts where the context calls for it (Excellence-level responses typically connect two or more ideas, e.g. energy AND momentum, or waves AND electromagnetism).
• Justify with calculation wherever the context supports one — an application backed by a number is stronger evidence than an application described only in words.
